The super-bright krypton halogen #3496 bulb can be used to replace any of
the Running and Brake Lights listed above (except the Amber Bulb).
By comparison the #3496 is rated 43/3 cp, which
is 34% brighter on the high filament and 50% brighter on the low as
compared to the stock #2057. Their krypton halogen design allows them to
produce this additional brightness while drawing only about 2 more watts
of power as well! This means you could put them in the tail, backup,
front cornering, and CHMSL of the Impala/Caprice, replacing the wimpier
#2057s that are there now.

I haven't found a 3496NA (Natural Amber), so for now I'd recommend a #2357NA
for the turn signals since that is the brightest amber bulb I have found.
I am investigating the use of APM Hexseal SiliKrome bulb covers (silicone bulb condoms) to
achieve an amber color for the #3496 in a turn signal application.

Recommended Driving Light Replacement Bulbs
The
standard driving light bulb on the SS is #9004. These can be
replaced with #9004XV. The 9004XV is 20% brighter than the #9004 it
replaces. You can also use the Syvania
Silver Star 9004 series, which are just a little bit brighter than the
XV's. To replace a driving light, simply unscrew the bulb holding
ring in back of the lens assembly, pull the bulb socket (with the bulb
attached) out of the lens assembly, unlock the bulb from the socket and
pull to separate the bulb from the socket. Insert the new bulb into
the lens assembly, twist the bulb holding ring
to lock the bulb in the lens assembly. Then push the bulb
socket back on the new light bulb. This process takes less than
five minutes and the only tool needed may be a flat blade screwdriver to
lift the snap over latch to separate the light bulb from the light
socket. You may need to re-align your lights after
replacement.
To
get even MORE from your headlights requires an electrical harness
upgrade, which allows for greater current to flow to the bulbs, and
reduces the voltage drop across the wires. The preferred
harness is made by Gary at Innovative
Wiring and is available from his website. VERY noticeable
improvement in the headlamp brightness from this mod! Check
out Gary's other SS and Chevy products as well. VERY
QUALITY items and great service.
